Paranormal Author Takeover Interview – Jennifer Felton

jenniferHere is the interview that I had the pleasure of doing with Jennifer Felton for the VF Presents Paranormal Author Takeover Event. Thank you Jennifer for doing the interview with me.

What made you choose to write in the paranormal genre?
I have always had a love for the spooky and the paranormal. I watched my first horror movie when I was about eight or so (Pet Cemetery), and ever since then I couldn’t get enough. Anything that has ghosts, witches, demons, vampires – it just does something for me LOL!

How many books do you currently have available in the paranormal genre and what are the titles?
Currently, I have two titles available. Both are a part of my One Hell of a Romance series: Through Life and Death (One Hell of a Romance Prequel) and Through Love and Hate (One Hell of a Romance Companion). The companion is a side story with different main characters, though the main characters of the core series are referenced/make appearances!

What is your favorite paranormal creature and why?
This is a difficult one! It would have to be a toss up between ghosts and vampires. Ghosts because I 100% they exist, and vampires because I’ve always been fascinated with them, I’m not sure why. There is just something about them!

If you could live in any paranormal book what book and character would you choose?
Ooooo ooooo! You really want to go and make things difficult now, don’t you? Geez… I think I would have to say any of Amanda Ashley’s vampire books. She was really my inspiration for writing vampire books. I just totally fell in love with them.

Can you share information with us any projects that you are currently working on?
No.

Haha. Ok, seriously now. I’m finishing up the third One Hell of a Romance book, which is entitled Through Good and Evil. The characters are in present day America (which for anyone who read the prequel, you know they started out in 1880’s Great Britain). I’m a terribly bad girl because I had been hoping to release the book by the end of February, but I still have a few more chapters to write.

Once I’m done with that, a new project will be in the works before the fourth installment of the One Hell of a Romance series comes out. I’ve been on this series working on it so long, that I just need to take a step back from it and give myself some variety. I have two versions of book four in my head, so I need some time away to figure it out.

So, instead, I’ll probably be working on the first release for my Book of Shadows series and the first in a probably-not-paranormal series.

What do you think is one of the biggest misconceptions that people have about writers in general?
That we do nothing. I swear, people think we have fairies floating around doing all our writing for us while we lounge around and do nothing. I work a full time, overnight, job on top of writing. So it’s a lot of work going into my books when I get the time to just sit down and write. Otherwise, I could just produce a book on a whim, sell lots of copies, and never have to go to a ‘real’ job again…

If you could change something within the author/reader community what would you change and why?
The snarkiness! Authors bickering and fandoms attacking each other are big turn offs. They make me not want to read into whatever or whoever. Yes, we may be in the same genre, but it’s not a competition; we should be supporting each other instead of tearing everyone else down.

Who is your biggest supporter?
My dog? LOL. My kids don’t really understand because they’re too young. My fiancé, yeah, he’s probably one of the people who think it’s not ‘work’, as well as my mom. lol. So, yeah… I’m going to stick with my dog. Sherlock loves his biscuits, so as long as I keep writing, I can keep affording his treats! hehe. 😉

Of all the books that you have written are any of them based on real life experiences?
Real life experiences? No, not really. However, having said that, it isn’t exactly true for the second book, Through Love and Hate. This book was my therapy. A very dear, close, family friend had been diagnosed with terminal cancer. A lot of what Anya goes through, in terms of the progression of her cancer, is based on what had happened thus far.

For anyone who has read it, or will read it, and become interested in what happened to my friend Anya is based on, I am happy to announce that as of this interview, on 1/20/201, she is still alive and on chemo. She had been given maybe six months, and almost three years later, she is still fighting. While terminal and no chance of remission, she is still going strong and not letting her illness get the better of her. On the other hand, she is starting to run out of treatment options and we all know she is getting near the end. It’s sad to see a young vibrant mother with everything to live for putting all her papers and affairs in order and buying a condo so they can sell their house now so her husband doesn’t have to worry about any of that after.

It’s truly heartbreaking. The day the world loses her light, will be one of the darkest days of my life.

What advice would you give to new authors that are just starting out?
JUST WRITE. At this point, it doesn’t matter what you are writing or why you are writing, just as long as you are doing it! You can figure out all the rest later. The worst thing you write today, is better the best thing you didn’t write yesterday. 😉 I don’t remember who said that, but I’m sure it was someone important! Ha!

Paranormal Author Takeover Interview – Nicholas Bella

nicholasHere is the interview that I had the pleasure of doing with Nicholas Bella for the VF Presents Paranormal Author Takeover Event. Thank you Nicholas for doing the interview with me.

What made you choose to write in the paranormal genre?
The decision came very easy to me because I love anything involving the paranormal/supernatural. Vampires, werewolves, demons, dragons, fae, witches, etc. writing about these interesting creatures, or even coming up with new ones yourself just gives you so much more range and you can take your creativity to new heights.

How many books do you currently have available in the paranormal genre and what are the titles?
I have 16 episodes that make up three complete seasons, and the beginning of season four of my New Haven series involving some very kinky, badass vampires, werewolves and dragons. My Demon Gate series has 4 episodes available with the fifth episode releasing soon. These demons are awesome, trust me.

What is your favorite paranormal creature and why?
Vampires. Something about them is so alluring and sensual. They are immortal, feed on life and are extremely powerful.

If you could live in any paranormal book what book and character would you choose?
Oh wow, to be fair, I’ll exclude my own New Haven series because that choice is too obvious. I’d would like to be a vampire in Tessa Dawn’s “Blood Curse Series”, as the character of Marquis.

Can you share information with us any projects that you are currently working on?
The fifth episode of my Demon Gate series, Charmed is being released very soon. I’ve also written ep. 6 of the Demon Gate for a Valentine’s Day Anthology for Feb. 14th release. I’m currently working on ep. 2 of the Kingdom of Ara, season four of the New Haven series titled Suspicion. The year is starting off with a bang.

What do you think is one of the biggest misconceptions that people have about writers in general?
That we’re all rich. LOL. Or that it’s easy to sell books. Rather you’re self-pub or traditionally pub, the writing industry is a tough place to start a career. You have to promote to get your name out to the readers and you have to make sure what you’ve written is entertaining.

If you could change something within the author/reader community what would you change and why?
I would hope more authors would support each other. I think readers are being more outgoing with their book choices these days. So many are willing to support self-pub/small press authors and that’s a wonderful thing. Keep it up. 😀

Who is your biggest supporter?
My fans are simply amazing. I lovingly call them the Bellaholics, which is a name they came up with themselves. As an author, I really couldn’t ask for a more loyal, supportive and kickass fanbase.

Of all the books that you have written are any of them based on real life experiences?
No. I would hope not. LOL! With what I’ve written, one would have a very wild life filled with pain, pleasure, sex, indulgence and every kind of debauchery you can think of.

What advice would you give to new authors that are just starting out?
Make sure you’re writing the story you want to read. That way, you’ll love doing what you do.

Paranormal Author Takeover Interview – Danielle DeVor

danielleHere is the interview that I had the pleasure of doing with Danielle DeVor for the VF Presents Paranormal Author Takeover Event. Thank you C.L. for doing the interview with me.

What made you choose to write in the paranormal genre?
I’ve always been fascinated by the things that go bump in the night. So, getting involved with ghosts and vampires, etc, was just a natural progression for me. In fact, books that I write outside the genre are very difficult.

How many books do you currently have available in the paranormal genre and what are the titles?
Tail of the Devil, Constructing Marcus, Sorrow’s Point, The Devil’s Liege, and Strange Darkness
I also have short stories in anthologies. And, some of the books cross over into other genres as well.

What is your favorite paranormal creature and why?
The vampire, definitely. I connected with them at an early age. I think because they can be beautiful and ugly. And, they can fly.

If you could live in any paranormal book what book and character would you choose?
Definitely The Vampire Lestat. I would love to meet Lestat. Not be him exactly, but hang out with him. So, I would have to be someone he has crossed, I suppose.

Can you share information with us any projects that you are currently working on?
I just finished my sci fi vampire book, Maw. So, I am getting ready to begin the 4th volume of The Marker Cronicles (the first book of the series is Sorrow’s Point).

What do you think is one of the biggest misconceptions that people have about writers in general?
That we make a lot of money, but if they find out we don’t, then the writing must suck. The general public is really misinformed on the writing industry.

If you could change something within the author/reader community what would you change and why?
The kind of high-brow attitude some authors display when they are published with the Big 5. This publishing world is far different from the one even ten years ago. Getting an agent and with a big publisher depends largely on a certain amount of luck these days. You have to have the one book they think will become a blockbuster.

Who is your biggest supporter?
My dad. He talks about my books to everyone he meets.

Of all the books that you have written are any of them based on real life experiences?
There are snippets in lots of my books. The most are in The Marker Cronicles. A lot that happens to Jimmy Holiday has happened to one family member or another. Lots of ghosts in my family. 🙂

What advice would you give to new authors that are just starting out?
Build your audience. Try to get as many real twitter followers as possible and make friends with other authors. It helps. 🙂

Ascenders Book Highlights – C.L. Gaber

51eVdsSVlOL._SX331_BO1,204,203,200_Today one of our featured books include Ascenders: High School for the Recently Departed written by C.L. Gaber. This is the first book in the Ascenders Saga and I personally look forward to reading it!

Walker Callaghan doesn’t know what happened to her. One minute she was living her teenage life in suburban Chicago…and the next minute, she was in a strange place and in a brand new school with absolutely no homework, no rules, and no consequences.

Walker Callaghan, 17, is dead.

She doesn’t go to heaven or hell. She lands at The Academy, a middle realm where teenagers have one thing in common: They were the morning announcement at their high schools because they died young.

These high school kids are now caught in a strange “in-between” zone where life hasn’t changed very much. In fact, this special teen limbo looks a lot like life in a quaint Michigan town complete with jocks, popular girls and cliques. “There are even cheerleaders in death,” Walker observes. It’s not a coincidence that the music teacher is a guy named Kurt who “used to have this band.” The drama teacher, Heath, is crush worthy because back in his life, he starred in some superhero movie.

Principal King explains the rules — there are none. Why? You can’t die twice.

There is no homework.
No tests.
No SATS.
You’re just there to learn because the human brain isn’t fully formed until you’re 24.

By the way, you can’t get hurt physically, so race your Harley off that hillside. But falling in love is the most dangerous thing you can do …because no one knows how long you’ll stay in this realm or what’s next.

“Losing someone you love would be like dying twice,” Walker says.

Paranormal Author Takeover Interview – C.L. Gaber

clHere is the interview that I had the pleasure of doing with C.L. Gaber for the VF Presents Paranormal Author Takeover Event. Thank you C.L. for doing the interview with me.

What made you choose to write in the paranormal genre?
I think the paranormal genre chose me. I’m a film critic and I was on a trip to LA. to interview Cher. (Yes, really!)  In the middle of the night, I had a vivid dream that played out like a movie in my mind. It had a beginning, middle and ending. I jumped out of bed and wrote everything down. That became my book series ASCENDERS. Even though it’s a multi book saga, I saw exactly the last scene of the last book. It was so amazing.

How many books do you currently have available in the paranormal genre and what are the titles? ASCENDERS is out now. The sequel will debut this spring.

What is your favorite paranormal creature and why?
I’ve always been drawn to angels and have several angel statues in my yard and in my home. They’re so calming. I also love the Gollum from “Lord of the Rings” and Dobby from “Harry Potter.” Shape shifters. Enough said!

If you could live in any paranormal book what book and character would you choose?
It would be really fun to live a day in the Twilight world. A day as Bella. Not bad! But I’m afraid of heights, so that whole let’s scale up trees thing would have me freaking out.

Can you share information with us any projects that you are currently working on?
I’m one chapter away from finishing Ascenders 2, out this spring.  It’s been so exciting crafting a sequel. Then I’m jumping right into Ascenders 3 for a fall release.

What do you think is one of the biggest misconceptions that people have about writers in general?
I don’t think people “get” writers. They might think that we’re not doing much when we’re just thinking about what to put on the page. But we’re always plotting and planning. You don’t have to be in front of the keyboard to write. I love to mull over what will happen next in Ascenders at daybreak when you’re halfway between sleep and the day.

If you could change something within the author/reader community what would you change and why?
I would just love to reach more readers because readers are AWESOME! I love to hear from readers. I love that on Facebook we can share things from our lives. So what would I change? Just wish I could get everyone involved. So send your friends on over!

Who is your biggest supporter?
Definitely my husband Ron. He’s awesome, so loving, and always has my back. He’s so encouraging about Ascenders and loves to hear plot ideas. You can’t even imagine how many dinners we’ve had out where I’ve spend time talking about demons and immortal souls. You get the strangest looks from the waiter and other people! I’m so blessed to have Ron who was incidentally my high school boyfriend. We went our different ways for 30 years and then came back together. Magic! I also have the best 14 year old bonus daughter.

Of all the books that you have written are any of them based on real life experiences?
I have put a lot of real life experience in Ascenders. It’s about a high school for the recently departed. Some of my life is in there for sure. I’ve also lost both parents and the forever bond between parent and child is definitely in there. The hot love story between Walker and Daniel…I hope that’s everyone’s story!

What advice would you give to new authors that are just starting out?
Write, write, write. Try to get something on the page each day. Maybe you’ll just write a page, but it’s one page closer to holding your book someday. Also don’t ask 300 people for advice. Write from your heart and then hire a great editor.

The Mortal One Series Book Highlights – Shannon Bell

indexToday one of our featured authors is Shannon Bell with her Mortal One Series. If you enjoy reading about vampires then this is the series for you. I had the pleasure of meeting Shannon right after book one came out and was immediately addicted to her sexy goodness that these books bring. Now just a couple years later she has now completed the four book series. I highly recommend that anyone with a taste for vampire literature take a chance on these amazing books and I guarantee you won’t be sorry. There are currently four books in the series including The Mortal One, Immortality Stolen, The Immortal Compromise and Mortality Lost.

The Mortal One
1Hot vampires are everywhere and Dylan is finding it hard to control herself – especially since she is the only Mortal One. Her life was normal up until a few days ago. Then she met Nico on the streets of Florence and her world will never be the same again. Nico is sexy, Italian, and immortal – three features that she has never found more alluring in a man. She must now learn how to balance an exhilarating love affair and vampire politics at their worst. There’s also a Parisian vampire that wants to claim her and she has to receive a mark in order to keep her safe from the troubles that exist.

Dylan and Nico are growing stronger as a power couple and that is causing some feelings of jealousy from a few different people within their lives. Dylan is learning about being “a sensitive” and trying to forge a new home within Paris. Will she be able to survive as a mortal? Can Nico and Olivier come up with a compromise that allows them to work together?

Vengeance Book Review – Erica Stevens

41KOFxEqEUL._SX311_BO1,204,203,200_For years the Captive Book Series has been one of my all time favorites and with each new one she writes it just keeps her at the top of my must read list. From the brave but scared humans that they originally started out as and later turned into these strong lovable characters that we have had the privilege of watching develop into who they were destined to be and Vengeance does not fail to deliver. William was a favorite from the start and reading his story was absolutely amazing. Sometimes love can sabotage you but it can also be your savior. This book is my second favorite in the series now and Erica continues to entertain and be at the top of her writing game. If you have yet to read any of the Captive Book Series you are missing out and should rush to get your copy. I can guarantee you will not be unsatisfied with what she has to offer! I would recommend Erica Stevens 100% 10x’s over and I have yet to find anyone who hasn’t become a life long fan after reading her books! Go on and grab your copy of Vengeance!

erDriven by a burning need for vengeance, William sets out in search of the man who ended his mortal life. Determined to kill Kane, no matter what the cost, he travels deeper into the mountains to find him. What he’s not expecting is to discover Tempest.
Forced to flee her sheltered mountain town in search of help, Tempest has no idea what to expect from the world outside her valley. At first she believes it’s a miracle when she stumbles upon William, until she realizes he has only one thing on his mind, murder.
Torn between continuing his mission to kill Kane and his growing feelings for Tempest, William begins to realize the peace they established after the war is in danger of being torn apart. A far larger threat than Kane is looming on the horizon, a threat no one could have seen coming. One that could destroy everything they’ve all sacrificed so much for.

***Mature YA/New Adult. This book contains some language, violence, and sexual situations. Recommended for ages sixteen and up.

Authors Tell All – Sam Cheever

sammOur featured author Sam Cheever was recently asked the following question by a fan – What is the most hilarious or crazy thing that inspired you put in your books just because?

I’m always on the lookout for funny things to put into my books. A lot of my inspiration comes from my dogs. As an example, in my newest romantic suspense, Slow Burner, the Great Dane in the story is based on my huge baby boy, Bram. In the story the Dane likes to pick up painted box turtles and run around the yard with them in his big mouth. Yeah, Bram actually does that. LOL You can’t make this stuff up!

bedBedeviled & Beguiled
She’s on the side of good in the war between good and evil, but there’s this one bad guy…

Astra Q Phelps is on the side of the good guys in the war between good and evil. Unfortunately for her, the bad guys have been making inroads on her soul. And when a particularly dark and sexy dark worlder fixes his heated gaze on Astra, the lighter side of her nature quickly finds itself kicked to the curb by her slut-monkey side. But Astra doesn’t have time to deal with her love life. She’s in the middle of a war between two dark factions…a war that just might mean the end of the human population…and it seems the fate of the world rests uneasily on her shoulders. It’s a lot of pressure to put on one feisty halfling…but Astra Q Phelps is definitely…erm…certainly…ahh…possibly up to the challenge.

Tempted by a Vampire by Susan Griscom – Book Review

Tempted by a Vampire (Immortal Hearts of San Francisco Book 1)

51ZaT-ntmFL._SX331_BO1,204,203,200_I loved reading Cian’s and Magdalena’s story. The author Susan Griscom does a great job creating a fun filled vampire story that gives a new spin on things. The story shows us how the vampires typically satisfy their needs and cravings with various strangers. Feeding their lust and desires with blood and sex so when Cian chose this random woman he had no clue that it wouldn’t be so easy to walk away from her. Magdalena has a boyfriend who was unhappy with her decision to not move to San Francisco with him and things are about to go south when Magdalena wants to change their current situation. I won’t go into more details because I hate giving away spoilers but this book is a must read. I have read literally hundreds of vampire books and this one had a fresh face on it and was definitely an enjoyable read. The perfect mixture of paranormal romance with a side of sexy action that you don’t want to miss out on. Make sure to pre-order your copy today for only $0.99 and find out why Tempted by a Vampire is now on my favorites list!
