Author Interview – Rebekah R. Ganiere

iiHere is my author interview with Rebekah R. Ganiere. We will be highlighting her book series The Society Trilogy. Make sure to check out the books in the trilogy Reign of the Vampires, Rise of the Fae and Vengeance of the Demons.

What was your overall inspiration to write in the very beginning of your career?
I heard someone say that there weren’t a lot of good zombie romances out there and I thought that was a gross idea. But it got stuck in my head and I couldn’t get it out. Before I knew it I had an idea for a girl who entered an unsanctioned drug trial in an effort to pay some bills and woke up with no memory of who she was or how she got there to discover she’d become a Deader – A zombie. And from there the ideas just flowed out of me.

How many vampire books do you currently have out with titles please?
I have three in my Society SeriesReign of the Vampires, Rise of the Fae, Vengeance of the Demons. I also have vampires in my Fairelle Fairytale retelling series. Red the Were Hunter, Snow the Vampire Slayer, Jamen’s Yuletide Bride, Zelle and the Tower and Cinder the Fae. The next book in my Otherworlder Series will have a Vampire in it. Haunting Halloween will release next Halloween.

Do you have a favorite vampire book or movie/tv show?
Right now The Originals is my favorite. Elijah is just yummy! And Black Dagger Brotherhood as well as Midnight Breed are my favorite Vampire Books.

If vampires were to really exist and you had the option to become immortal would you do so yes or no and why? Oh man!  That’s tough. I think it would depend on the circumstances. If I was poor and had to work for a living every day, probably not. If I was rich as a Vampire then, I might.

What do you find to be the most challenging thing about being an author?
Budgeting my time. I’m a mom of 4 kids I homeschool. My son and daughter are actors in Hollywood. My oldest daughter is a competitive dancer and my second oldest daughter is a fencer. We are also cosplayers and go to about 5 or 6 cons a year that I speak at. And I make all the costumes myself. So trying to do all of that stuff plus being a writer is very difficult.

If you could co-write a brand new vampire book with anyone of you’re choosing who would it be and why?
Lara Adrian. She is a beautiful, sweet woman and she is an amazing writer!

Are you currently working on any new projects that you would like to share with us?
I am working on 2 shifter series. Shifter Rising and Wolf River. I am also going to be releasing a new installment of Fairelle this year – Belle and the Beast. As well as a new Otherworlder book – Haunting Halloween. I have 70 other plus books that are waiting to be written so, I’m always working on something.

What is one of the biggest misconceptions that you think people have about authors in general?
That writing is easy and makes tons of money immediately. Some writers have talent, some work hard to gain it. And even for those with natural born writing talent, writing does not always come easy. It takes hard work and effort. Even when it’s a project you love.

If money was no object and you could travel to any place in the world for your dream vacation where would you go and what would you do?
I would go to Europe. I’ve always wanted to go there. Ireland and England and Italy especially. Scotland as well. I’d stay in castles, enjoy the food and the land. I’d go see landmarks and just become inspired.

Do you prefer online events or live events and what do you think the pros and cons of each are?
Online are easier for writers like me that are a bit on the shy side. But I think you can connect so much better with people in person. I actually prefer in person events even though I get major anxiety doing them.

A Paranormal Reckoning Author Interview – Jessica Gomez

jessicaHere is my author interview with Jessica Gomez for A Paranormal Reckoning Event. Make sure to check out her books especially Infected! Grab your copy today!

What is the one thing that you like best about writing and reading paranormal books?
The Best thing about reading and writing para books is definitely the imagination about them. They’re not your normal romance or horror. You can go above and beyond the realm of “normal” and create something all your own. Your imagination is your limit.

What paranormal creature is your favorite to read about and why?
I have to say I am a sucker for Vampires. I do like shifters as well. For me, they’re the sexiest ones. 😉

What is one thing about the paranormal genre that you think stands out from other genres in the book world?
I believe their more exciting. Most books seem repetitive. It’s not until you get a good para book can an entire new world open up for you.

What free tool or option do you think more authors should utilize?
Definitely, Beta readers! Your betas can make or break a book at times. They are usually diehard readers. They will catch anything and everything you may overlook. I couldn’t do it without mine. (Heart your faces!)

What is one piece advice would you give to new authors just starting out?
DON’T EVER GIVE UP! You WILL have doubt. There WILL be times when you wonder if you’re good enough, if your story is good enough. If you LOVE what you do, DO IT! It’s in human nature to doubt. Just remember that not everyone will like your books, everyone has different taste. But someone out there WILL love it just as much as you do. And that one person is worth it. <3

Do you have a favorite place that you like to read in your home?
Yes, my bathtub. lol

If you could have any type of mythical creature for a pet what would you choose and why?
Wow! This is a hard one. Hmmm… I think it would be down to two. A Unicorn or a Dragon. Weird combo, I know. I think I would have to settle with the Dragon. They’re pretty bad ass and mine would be an awesome mix of purples and reds. (Yes, I have thought about this in length.)

If readers could only identify you using one word about you and your books what word do you think they would choose and why?
AWESOMESAUCE! This is my hope anyway. Hahaha

Have you ever had something happen that could be a paranormal occurrence that you could not explain?
Oh, heck yes. I believe that anything is possible. There are too many unknowns to just say, “No, that’s not real.” We have this place called Hot Lake Hotel, close to where I live. It’s totally haunted and actually in a book of the 10 most haunted placed in the US. We went there when I was younger and all the doors on the floor we were on slammed closed at the same time. About 15 to 20 doors at once. Plus, when we were leaving, I saw a lady walking across the grass. She was in a white dress, but never touched the ground and you could see directly through her. Needless to say, we hightailed it out of there! Haven’t been back since. It is now a Bed & Breakfast!

Depending on how many current paranormal books that you have on the market which one would you suggest new readers start with?
Unfortunately, I only have one at this time, INFECTED. The sequel to this book IMMUNE, will release at the end of summer 2016. Preorder will be up and running soon. This will be a multi-book series. I’m not sure how many books as of now, I have to see where the story takes me!

A Paranormal Reckoning Author Interview – Nicholas Bella

nicholasHere is my author interview with Nicholas Bella for A Paranormal Reckoning Event. Make sure to check out his Chained in Darkness Season One of the New Haven Series. Grab your copy today!

What is the one thing that you like best about writing and reading paranormal books?
I love the freedom to write whatever I want to write about the creatures I love. I’m a huge fan of the paranormal and I love reading as well as watching it to see what my fellow writers have come up with.

What paranormal creature is your favorite to read about and why?
Vampires. They have always been my favorite.  I love what you can do with them, their powers, their seduction and their lusts. They are very sexy.

What is one thing about the paranormal genre that you think stands out from other genres in the book world?
The one thing that stands out is that a writer’s imagination has no bounds. You can do so much more when crafting a paranormal world as opposed to one rooted in human restrictions.

What free tool or option do you think more authors should utilize?
FB groups that allow promotion. It’s been one of my biggest platforms to promote my novels.

What is one piece advice would you give to new authors just starting out?
Be original, and write what you love.

Do you have a favorite place that you like to read in your home?
In bed. 😀

If you could have any type of mythical creature for a pet what would you choose and why?
Hmmm, A dragon king from my NH series.

If readers could only identify you using one word about you and your books what word do you think they would choose and why?
Addicting. It’s also the word I hear the most from my fans. 😀

Have you ever had something happen that could be a paranormal occurrence that you could not explain?
Seeing the ghost of a dog while working at an animal shelter. I’ve never forgotten the experience.

Depending on how many current paranormal books that you have on the market which one would you suggest new readers start with?
If readers are looking for something dark, raunchy and out of the ordinary, I would suggest reading New Haven series. If they are looking for something dark, kinky, with some romance thrown in and original, I would suggest the Demon Gate series. 😀 Both have greatly entertained my fans.

A Paranormal Reckoning Author Interview – Tabitha Barret

tabithaHere is my author interview with Tabitha Barret for A Paranormal Reckoning Event. Make sure to check out her The Third Throne Series starting with The Angel of Darkness, Angel of Death and Angel of Vengeance. Make sure to grab your copy of these awesome books today.

What is the one thing that you like best about writing and reading paranormal books?
I like writing and reading paranormal books because you never know what to expect.  The rules change once you introduce mythical creatures with powers and abilities.  It adds an extra layer to the story.  The challenges are harder and there are unique obstacles to overcome.  Paranormal Romance takes two people who want to be together and ups the stakes.  Warring families become warring families with teeth and fangs.  Imagine what would have happened to Romeo and Juliet if Romeo had been a vampire and Juliet had been werewolf or a siren.  The battle in the streets of Verona would have been very different.

What paranormal creature is your favorite to read about and why?
I like reading about vampires because they tend to be sexy and sophisticated in many stories.  Werewolves are usually portrayed as more animalistic and brutal.  There is something to be said for a sexy vampire who is trying to seduce a woman who is immune to his powers and charm.

What is one thing about the paranormal genre that you think stands out from other genres in the book world?
I think paranormal characters are more vulnerable, which makes them standout as tragic figures.  They are powerful creatures, but are powerless to overcome their situations.  People can relate to them.  Take any sad story and add a paranormal element to make it even sadder.  The creatures could be persecuted or hunted by their own kind.  There are no limitations inside the paranormal genre.  Dragons can be made slaves to vampires.  Witches can be hunted by werewolves.  Seemingly unstoppable creatures can become tragic characters once magic is introduced.

What free tool or option do you think more authors should utilize?
A free tool that love to use is pixlr.com.  You can use to create quick banners or teaser photos.  There are plenty of free photo sites to find relevant pictures for your advertising.  Pixlr is easier than photoshop to use and faster when adding font or effects.  I’ve made some really nice banners for Facebook events in a quarter of the time compared to photoshop.

What is one piece advice would you give to new authors just starting out?
One piece of advice?  Geez, there are tons of things I want to tell authors.  The most important is that they need to understand their genre.  So many authors make the mistake of marketing to the wrong readers or using the wrong keywords in Twitter or in their Amazon book pages.  There should be a general genre and a niche keyword.  #book will not get you anywhere.  #author will not sell your book.  #fiction is a dead end.  Who is going to read your book?  Who will search for the elements within your book?  Find the correct genre and figure out what makes your books different.  #Fantasy may not be enough.  Is it Urban Fantasy, Epic Fantasy, High Fantasy, Fairytales, Young Adult, Middle School, or Magical Realism?  Don’t get too specific so that people would never search for #woodlandcreatures, but #fallenangels #ghosthunters and #apocalypse might work as secondary tags when describing your book.  I ignore silly things like #fiction #book because it doesn’t tell me anything other than it’s not non-fiction or gardening.

Do you have a favorite place that you like to read in your home?
I usually read in my bedroom because I can block out everyone else in the house.  Since I started writing more when I’m at home, I mostly read in my car or in the lunchroom at work.

If you could have any type of mythical creature for a pet what would you choose and why?
I think the vast majority would probably want a unicorn.  I’m more team dragon or something equally dangerous.  I would want a creature that would make intruders think twice about breaking into my house.

If readers could only identify you using one word about you and your books what word do you think they would choose and why?
Throne.  My books discuss fallen angels, various evil creatures, and the Bringer of the Apocalypse, but I chose the title, The Third Throne because the story is about power and destiny.  Whoever sits in the three thrones of Hell, rules the domain.  Three Heavenly Angels have sat upon the Third Throne over the years but none of them could handle it.  What will happen when the Bringer of the Apocalypse sits on the third throne?  Many consider her to be evil, while other see her as a symbol of hope.  At the end of the series, we shall see what power and authority does to this woman.  Will it drive her mad like her predecessors, or will she be what Hell needs?

Have you ever had something happen that could be a paranormal occurrence that you could not explain?
Growing up I was the kid who always believed that the house was haunted, or that ghosts were real, but I don’t think I ever had something happen to me directly.  I’m more susceptible to weird coincidences, like talking about something completely random and then hearing or seeing it again later that day.  For example, you have a rarely heard song stuck in your head and then you walk into a room and hear it playing.  I mentioned a bus that my kids played on when they were in daycare to my husband.  I haven’t talked about that bus or seen it anywhere in 10 years.  Five minutes later while driving out of state to a mall I have never been to before, my husband spotted that bus on the opposite side of the highway coming towards us.  He freaked out.  Maybe it’s some silly hidden ability I have.

Depending on how many current paranormal books that you have on the market which one would you suggest new readers start with?
I would suggest starting with book 1, though it’s more like a setup book for the series.  There is less action than the other books, but the reader learns about the main character as she figures out who she really is.  Book 2 is where our main character’s journey begins.  There is more action and a more detailed plot.  Book 3 and on continue the journey until the last book of the series, yet to come.

A Paranormal Reckoning Author Interview – K.D. Friedrich

kdHere is my author interview with K.D. Friedrich for A Paranormal Reckoning Event. Make sure to check out her book Soul Tie Seduction. Grab your copy today!

What is the one thing that you like best about writing and reading paranormal books?
I love the complete fantasy of it. Anything can happen and usually does. Writing in this genre gives me the chance to let my imagination run free.

What paranormal creature is your favorite to read about and why?
I love shifters, werewolves being my favorite. There’s something about the alpha mentality in many of the shifter books that keeps me coming back for more.

What is one thing about the paranormal genre that you think stands out from other genres in the book world?
The diversity. There is no limit to the different kinds of characters, personalities, conflicts, plots, and stories that can be created within the paranormal genre. Authors never cease to amaze me when it comes to their imagination.

What free tool or option do you think more authors should utilize?
There are so many free resources available to authors. One of my favorites is mail chimp. It’s an online email marketing tool to help you manage subscribers, send emails, and track your results. I use it to send monthly newsletters out to everyone that has signed up to my mailing list. It’s easy to use and helps me get the word out to my readers about my releases and events.

What is one piece advice would you give to new authors just starting out?
Read and write as much as you can.

Do you have a favorite place that you like to read in your home?
Yes, lying in bed with the covers wrapped around me tight.

If you could have any type of mythical creature for a pet what would you choose and why?
I would love to have a little dragon. Why? Well, who wouldn’t want a cute dragon?

If readers could only identify you using one word about you and your books what word do you think they would choose and why?
Sensual. I’ve had several editors use that word to describe my style of writing.

Have you ever had something happen that could be a paranormal occurrence that you could not explain?
Yes, I’ve had some weird experiences with spirits. My whole family has seen or experienced things of the supernatural kind. I guess we’re drawn to it. I’ve seen unexplainable orbs and had strange feelings in certain places I visited like tightness in my chest or heaviness, as if something were pressing down on my body.

Depending on how many current paranormal books that you have on the market which one would you suggest new readers start with?
Right now, I only have one paranormal romance book on the market. Soul Tie Seduction is a story about Armen Jettison, a centuries old sex demon that was possessed with a human soul. He’s forced to battle his demonic creator and fallen brother to protect the one woman capable of saving his humanity. I am currently working on book 2 in the Jettison Brotherhood and also, I hope to have book 1 in a new witch series ready to be released early this fall.

I think it goes to the imagination. Much like Sci fi. but there is a richness to taking fokelore and making it your own.

Emotional

Have you ever had something happen that could be a paranormal occurrence that you could not explain?
All the time.  But the biggest one is knowing my father as going to be in an accident. So getting up to say goodbye to him in the morning and saying be careful. Ten years later the same thing happened to me but it was my father getting up to say be care to me.

Depending on how many current paranormal books that you have on the market which one would you suggest new readers start with?

A Paranormal Reckoning Author Interview – T.K. Lawyer

tkHere is my author interview with T.K. Lawyer for A Paranormal Reckoning Event. Make sure to check out The Guardian League Series by her which currently includes two books Jasper and Centurion. Grab your copy of these awesome books today!

What is the one thing that you like best about writing and reading paranormal books?
I love having the freedom to create supernatural powers within characters and fantasy worlds that don’t exist, to the extent that I want, creating and destroying at will, twisting characters and plots as the story unfolds.  Reading Paranormal romance is reading an Author’s creativity- it is wonderful when you can get fully immersed in a story and the characters become real to you.

What paranormal creature is your favorite to read about and why?
Dragons. I just like dragons- maybe because I’m part Chinese.  But they are awe-inspiring, large, beautiful creatures and they are one of my favorite shifters to read about.

What is one thing about the paranormal genre that you think stands out from other genres in the book world?
The amount of creativity involved, mixed with supernatural forces sets this genre apart from others.

What free tool or option do you think more authors should utilize?
I am relatively new but what I wish for is for more Authors to help others out- especially new ones like me.  It’d be great for established authors to volunteer to mentor and assist new authors break into the reader population, even to the point of spotlighting them on their blog.  This is invaluable assistance to any new author and I don’t see a lot of this happening.

What is one piece of advice you would give to new authors just starting out?
If you want to write, go ahead and do it.  Don’t let anyone stop you.  It will be a learning process at the beginning and quite possibly a struggle but if this is your dream, follow it and don’t let anyone stop you.

Do you have a favorite place that you like to read in your home?
I have a comfy couch by three windows in the front of my home.  It is a relatively peaceful place where I can enjoy the sunshine, the soft music from the wind chimes just outside the windows or even look out toward the street in between pages while I’m reading.  I love sitting in this one place and enjoying the relaxing, peaceful silence.

If you could have any type of mythical creature for a pet what would you choose and why?
A Dragon.  Not sure my HOA would like it though and don’t know where I’d house the Dragon once it matured to full size but I’d love to have a beautiful, powerful but gentle, loving dragon.

If readers could only identify you using one word about you and your books what word do you think they would choose and why?
Unique.  My books are not your usual Paranormal Romance.  They are different and usually have some kind of twist.  Nightfall is about a wolf-shifter who is taken in as a pet.  The Guardian League Angels- Jasper and Centurion- each have different personalities and responsibilities but find their mates on Earth and have to deal with “Earthly” subjects they don’t have experience in.

Have you ever had something happen that could be a paranormal occurrence that you could not explain?
Oh yes- several.  I tend to see things out of the corner of my eye.  I usually don’t disclose these things because not everyone is open to paranormal subjects/occurrences and some consider these things evil which is really crazy but I can tell you of one experience that has me laughing to this day.  The next day after my husband and I bought our first home, I was on my way to work.  I started backing my car out of the garage when thought I saw a tall man by the door leading in to our home; however, my husband already left for the day so there shouldn’t have been anyone there.  Then I noticed he was waving at me “good bye” and smiling and I felt he meant no harm.  When I turned to look at the man, to determine if he was really there and if he was a burglar or something else, he disappeared. I laugh because this “spirit/ghost/whatever” was just wishing me a nice day.  Too funny.

Depending on how many current paranormal books that you have on the market which one would you suggest new readers start with?
The one that I get the highest ratings on is Jasper, The Guardian League, Book One; however, you have to have an open mind to read it.  The story is about a Guardian Angel who finds a human mate, on Earth.  You not only get glimpses into Jasper’s supernatural life and powers but you are taken on a journey through his courtship of his human mate who is stunned when she finds out what he really is.  The reason why I say the reader must be open-minded when reading Jasper is because the book and the whole series is not a “sweet romance” where intimacy is ‘off the books’ or behind closed doors.  Jasper is classified as a “Scorching hot romance” by the Publisher.  My Angels are like any other beings you will read about in books and when they fall in love, they fall hard and will do just about anything to please their mates because love endures and they want their mates, permanently, in their lives.

What is the one thing that you like best about writing and reading paranormal books?
I like writing all the twists and turns that paranormal books can have. I love reading suspenseful paranormal books that keep me on the edge of my seat.

What paranormal creature is your favorite to read about and why?
That depends on the day. Sometimes it is vampires, sometimes it is werewolves, and sometimes I like to be surprised by something new.

What is one thing about the paranormal genre that you think stands out from other genres in the book world?
I think the paranormal genre has the ability to transport you fully into the story and make you look around the real world and wonder if just maybe…what if the things in this story were real?

What free tool or option do you think more authors should utilize?
Podcasts. Listen to them. They are full of wonderful information!

What is one piece advice would you give to new authors just starting out?
Don’t worry about anything more than sitting down and writing. All the other stuff will come after the book is finished.

Do you have a favorite place that you like to read in your home?
I like to curl up in my hammock chair on my back porch.

If you could have any type of mythical creature for a pet what would you choose and why?
A dragon! What else! A perfect guardian that can fly you around.

If readers could only identify you using one word about you and your books what word do you think they would choose and why?
Suspenseful. You never quiet know what is coming in my books. The stories build up slow, grab a hold of you, and then you can’t put them down.

Have you ever had something happen that could be a paranormal occurrence that you could not explain?

mirandaHere is my author interview with Miranda Shanklin for A Paranormal Reckoning Event. Make sure to check out her book Soul Journey which is book one in her Soul Series. Grab your copy today!

What is the one thing that you like best about writing and reading paranormal books?
I love that I get to suspend reality and get lost in my imagination.

What paranormal creature is your favorite to read about and why?
I don’t really have a favorite. I tend to gravitate toward faeries though. I’m not really sure why.

What is one thing about the paranormal genre that you think stands out from other genres in the book world?
There are so many options. With other genres you are more limited. With paranormal the options are wide open and you never know what you are going to get.

What free tool or option do you think more authors should utilize?
Hmmm this is a hard one. I think every author I know uses every tool they know of, I know I do! If there are more out there we are not using I would love to hear about them!!

What is one piece advice would you give to new authors just starting out?
Be patient! A lot of new authors expect to publish and be an instant success. It takes time and A LOT of work. If you are not willing to put the work in you won’t make it very far.

Do you have a favorite place that you like to read in your home?
On my couch. I am still in the middle of everything but I can still get lost in my book. I can feel connected to both worlds.

If you could have any type of mythical creature for a pet what would you choose and why?
ohhh there are so many to choose from. Hmm, I think I would have to say hearth brownie. It would be great to wake up to a clean house every day and I could handle leaving him gifts everyday.

If readers could only identify you using one word about you and your books what word do you think they would choose and why?
Either awesome or amazing. I tend to overuse both of those words LOL

Have you ever had something happen that could be a paranormal occurrence that you could not explain?
Many times. I firmly believe in the paranormal

Depending on how many current paranormal books that you have on the market which one would you suggest new readers start with?
I have a 5 book series but currently only the first one is available. The series is being re-edited and polished so the others are not available at this time.

A Paranormal Reckoning Author Interview – Libby Doyle

libbyHere is my author interview with Libby Doyle for A Paranormal Reckoning Event. Make sure to check out her book The Passion Season: Book I of the Covalent Series. Grab your copy today!

What is the one thing that you like best about writing and reading paranormal books?
The endless possibilities. When you have characters who possess magic or other superhuman powers it opens up a no-limits world of fun and imagination. Life can be a grind. Why not escape to a different world for a little while? It’s rejuvenating.

What paranormal creature is your favorite to read about and why?
I’d have to say aliens because they can be anything the writer wants them to be. I also like angels, because I’m a sucker for characters that are powerful, beautiful and good. If we include watching as well as reading, I would add vampires because my journey into pop culture and the paranormal started with the TV shows Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel.

What is one thing about the paranormal genre that you think stands out from other genres in the book world?
All paranormal creatures are symbols of things buried in the human psyche. This gives the writers who work with them the opportunity to explore these buried fears and desires in interesting ways. Why do we find vampires so sexy? Is it because they defeat our own inhibitions? Are guardian angels popular because life is so hard we can’t help but dream about someone who’ll protect us? What’s up with all the zombies? Is everyone afraid the world is going to end?

What free tool or option do you think more authors should utilize?
I think everyone should be in a writers’ group, where you meet face to face. I’ve gotten tons of advice, had a lot of laughs and done a lot of venting at my writers’ group chat fests.

What is one piece advice would you give to new authors just starting out?
If you’re going to self-publish, put your book aside for a month (or two if you can) and read it again before publishing. The time may bring out aspects of your book you didn’t know were there, which could help with marketing. Also, mistakes and weaknesses will jump out at you.

Do you have a favorite place that you like to read in your home?
My husband and I read at our kitchen table on weekend mornings while drinking coffee, my favorite part of the week.

If you could have any type of mythical creature for a pet what would you choose and why?
A fire-breathing dragon, so I could roast my enemies (or perhaps just really, really frighten them). On days when I’m feeling optimistic, I might choose Pegasus.

If readers could only identify you using one word about you and your books what word do you think they would choose and why?
Ripsnorter, because so much happens in my book. Hot sex, sword fights with yellow-eyed beasts, romantic murmurings, hot sex, manipulation of the properties of matter and energy, political intrigue, police work, hot sex, trippy mental battles with Lucifer, and did I mention hot sex? As for why the word applies to me? Well, the story came out of my head, which still seems weird when I think about it.

Have you ever had something happen that could be a paranormal occurrence that you could not explain?
When I was a teenager, my friend and I thought we felt a malevolent presence near an old quarry, but we were just high.
