Gabrielle Bisset

I recently had a VampireForums.com fan refer an author to us which we just completed an interview with which was the talented Gabrielle Bisset. I prefer to interview authors after I personally read at least one of their books which is why I chose to obtain a copy of Blood Avenged, which is the first book in her “Sons of Navarus” series which I enjoyed very much and look forward to reading the next one. She has graciously agreed to donate the first book in the series to use for future giveaways. Thank you for the wonderful interview Gabrielle.

How old were you when you knew that you wanted to be a writer?
I wanted to be a writer ever since I was a little girl. I always loved reading and would think up my own stories all the way back when I was writing with just crayons!

How did you get the idea for the Sons of Navarus and how long did it take you to write the first book?
I love vampires, but I wanted to do something different so I decided that instead of making the storyline vampire vs human, I wanted it be a vampire vs vampire/civil war plot. I loved the idea of a power struggle between the good guys (the Sons of Navarus) vs the bad guys (the Archons). Blood Avenged is the first book and it took around 4 months to write.

Other than the Sons of Navarus series is there any other series that you have written that you would like our fans to know about?
I have the Destined Ones series, which is also paranormal. That series has Stolen Destiny and Destiny Redeemed and is about a race of beings descended from humans called Aeveren who have multiple lives through reincarnation. I also have a series of historical novellas called The Victorian Erotic Romance Trilogy that’s set in the Victorian Period.

Who is your biggest supporter?
My son is probably my biggest supporter. He’s even gotten his friends interested in my books.

If you had to choose one word to describe the type of writer that you consider yourself what would it be?
Detailed

The characters in each of your books vary, so which one would you consider that you connect with the most?
I’m probably closest to Vasilije from Blood Avenged. I’ve been writing him for so long that he’s like a close friend. When it’s time to write him, I so easily slip into his character that it feel effortless.

Do you have any other books in the work about vampires?
Blood Craving, the fifth novel in the Sons of Navarus series, is in the works right now. It’s Sion’s story and should be released soon.

What has been the hardest milestone for you thus far being an author?
The hardest thing for me is carving out writing time. I work full time and I home school my son, so I usually only have time to write at night. Not surprisingly, I have a pretty lame social life. 🙂

What is one thing about you that if most readers knew they would be surprised by if they knew about you?
I’m really quite silly. I love to laugh and giggle, but many people believe I’m very serious. Anyone who knows me well knows I’m the person who’s laughing out loud at a joke or funny movie.

Do you have a favorite author and have they inspired you in any way?
I love Christine Feehan’s books. She has a wonderful way of telling a story that makes you feel like you’re right there in the action. I always hope that readers see that in my stories.

For those that are just starting out and are hoping to be as successful as you are one day what advice would you give them?
Dedicate yourself to the craft of writing and learn all you can before jumping into publishing. You’ll be glad for the experience when you’re finally ready.
