It’s Your Time To Shine One Book at a Time Author Interview – A.K. Michaels

akHere is my author interview with the talented A.K. Michael’s for the It’s Your Time To Shine – One Book At A Time Event. This amazing author has lots of books to offer including some of my favorites The Witch, The Wolf and The Vampire Series, The Black Rose Chronicles (which consists of Deceit and Lies, Book 1, Torment and Treachery, Book 2 and Battle and Betrayal: Book 3) just to name a few of her amazing selection.

What is the one think that you hope to improve upon as far as your writing career is concerned?
My writing so I make my editor’s job a wee bit easier. I write fast and sometimes don’t always see errors which annoys me something fierce! I hope to grow with every single story I write so my books are the best they can possibly be.

If you could choose to have dinner with any author, past or present, that you have never met who would you choose and why?
Dang! This is almost impossible to answer as there are so many! Okay, if I have to choose one then I’ll go with the author of one of my favorite TV shows, George R R Martin of Game of Thrones fame. I mean, jeez, the stuff that goes on in that show is phenomenal and I’d love to pick his brains!

What genres do you write in and what is your favorite to read?
I write mostly Paranormal, with Romance, suspense and action, with some dystopian/apocalyptic thrown in with my last two series.

I read across a broad range of genres, everything from Stephen King to Nav Logan’s epic fantasy Stormbringer Saga series, which I LOVE!

What is one genre that you think you would have a hard time writing in and why?
Oh this is easy – human only books! I’m determined to give it a go at some point lol, but I love the freedom my Supernatural beings give me in say a fight scene. Humans are limited with what I can have them do in those scenarios so I think it will be difficult for me, not impossible though!

What is one tool that you think more authors should utilize more often?
I hear a lot of authors saying they can’t afford an editor, well, I know how that feels BUT I think this is an absolute must. If you expect people to pay their hard earned money to buy your book then you have to invest in it and make it the best it can possibly be. That includes an editor, but also get a team of beta readers in place, as well as good cover designers etc. A good strong team really helps to produce a good strong product.

If you had to choose to be a character in your own book who would you choose and why?
Very hard to answer this, too many to choose from. I love Rose from The Black Rose Chronicles, and Peri from The Witch, The Wolf and The Vampire (I mean, who wouldn’t want to be a kickass assassin or a powerful Witch with two men at her beck and call!) But, my new series, Guild of Dragon Warriors, Jaxon’s Sanctuary has a load of character that I’d love to be! Strong sassy, dangerous Dragon Shifters, and an elusive and powerful Unicorn! I want to be them all!

Do you think that writing challenges you in general, or do you think it often flows naturally with little to no writer’s block?
I’ve been very lucky, so far, as I’ve not had writer’s block. I sometimes have to take time to sort things through in my head, especially if a character isn’t behaving as I thought lol, but I’ve never had a time when I’ve not been able to write.

Aside from writing what are some other things that you enjoy doing as time allows?
I love our GSD puppy, Luna, who’s only coming up for seven months, so I spend time playing with her as well as training. A Sunday afternoon is completely spent with Luna and I, going to classes and just one on one time. We do have a new kitten too, but that wee bugger just keeps running away from me, apart from when he wants food, then he’s my best friend lol. I love chilling with hubs and watching a movie, and I’ll either have a glass of wine, or chocolate!

What is one thing most of your readers might be surprised to learn about you?
I don’t hide the fact that I’m OCD and have anxiety issues, but I’m also pretty dang shy lol. When I’m forced to go out to social occasions I either babble like an eejit, or don’t talk at all, lol.

Do you think that any specific book genres get less attention than it should and if so which ones?
Hmm, that’s difficult to answer as I don’t have much data to base an answer on. Possibly epic fantasy, as I do like that genre, but I’ve found it hard to find good books in that genre. I’m not sure if it’s because there aren’t that many out there, or that they are mis-classified on sites etc.
