Paranormal Author Takeover Interview – LaVerne Thompson

LaVerneHere is the interview that I had the pleasure of doing with LaVerne Thompson for the VF Presents Paranormal Author Takeover Event. Thank you LaVerne for doing the interview with me.

What made you choose to write in the paranormal genre?
It’s one of my favorite genres to read so it’s also one of my favorite to write. I love the concept of world building. Giving my imagination free reign and taking recognizable ideas and putting my own twist to them.

How many books do you currently have available in the paranormal genre and what are the titles?
Currently available in the paranormal genre that would be 11.

Angel Rising- Redemption
Sea Bride- Children of the Waves Book 1
Sea Storm- Children of the Waves Book 2
Sea Witch- Children of the Waves Book 3
Dragon’s Heart- Story of the Brethren
Dark Mist- The Hidden Series Book 1
Dark Shadow- The Hidden Series Book 2
A Christmas Spirit
Journey of the Princess of Ice- The Elementals
Tatianna (a freebie with my newsletter)

What is your favorite paranormal creature and why?
That would be the dragon. I love the thought of these mighty beasts that can breath fire and dominate the sky. And pretty much anything else they chose. lol One of my author taglines is “Let there be dragons.”

If you could live in any paranormal book what book and character would you choose?
Hmmm, that would be Maya in Dragon’s Heart. She was a strong character who stood her ground.

Can you share information with us any projects that you are currently working on?
I’m working on both the second books in the Redemption and Brethren series, but I’m also working on a series of stand alone books, the first one is Lost God about the rebirth and remaking of the Greek god Zeus.

What do you think is one of the biggest misconceptions that people have about writers in general?
That we’re rolling in money. Very few are and even fewer indie authors.

If you could change something within the author/reader community what would you change and why?
The lack of support. Many give lip service to support but fewer actually do something about it beyond a handful of friends. One way for readers to show support is if they enjoy a book to leave a review, especially a constructive one. Oh, and tell friends about the books they enjoy. For authors leaving reviews constructive or not can become problematic. But authors can show support of books by other authors they enjoy in many positive ways. There is a worldwide reading pool out there, and growing every day. With many authors and stories that are necessary to satisfy the many different types of appetites. Writing is not a competitive sport but a sharing of our creative talents.

Who is your biggest supporter?
lol my oldest daughter. She’s read and proofed some of my books.

Of all the books that you have written are any of them based on real life experiences?
Since these are all paranormals that would have to be a no. lol

What advice would you give to new authors that are just starting out?
Write. Then keep writing. Once you finished one story go on to the next.
