Fang Time! A Vampire Book Blood Fest Author Interview – J.N. Sheats

jackieHere is my author interview with the talented J.N. Sheats for the Fang Time! A Vampire Book Blood Fest Event. We will be featuring their Opsona Journey Series which includes Immortal Tempest, Fated Betrayal and Shadowed Intentions. Make sure to grab your copies today of these amazing books.

What originally inspired you to write about vampires in general?
I fell in love with vampires after watching the movie, Vampire in Brooklyn. I didn’t start writing vampire characters until I got into role-playing years later. It didn’t matter what theme the role-play was I always created a vampire character. What inspired me to write books about vampires was Twilight, but not for the reason most people think. I was so upset about the way vampires were portrayed in the books I felt the need to bring back the more dark and mythological vampire persona.

Are you currently working on any new projects that you would like to share with us?
I have tons of projects in the works. Including Depraved Alliance, the fourth book in my vampire series. Along with Slain Spirit, a twisted love story with demons, devils, and other nightmarish creatures.

What was your most recent release and what would you like readers to know about it?
The end of October I released my first full-length novel, Lineage, the first book in the J.J. Morris Mysteries. Lineage, follows Joey Morris. An overly mature 16 year old in a small town. One night wild dogs start attacking, and people start turning up dead. One by one Joey and her friends are picked off and dark secrets of the town’s past come out. Brutal deaths, a coven, spirits, haunted mansions, and a sexy stranger all in one book. 😉

Do you have a newsletter that you would like readers to sign up for?
I sure do, and starting in January I will be including a chapter every month of a fantasy adventure book I’m working on. Click HERE to signup for the newsletter!

How many books do you currently have available that include vampires and how would you describe your writing style in 3 words?
I currently have 3 books with vampires in them. Immortal Tempest, Fated Betrayal, Shadowed Intentions. All three are apart of my Opsona Journey Series, with the fourth, Depraved Alliance, coming soon.
My writing style… Elegant word painting.

Are you a fan of any specific vampire shows or movies?
No vampires shows I care for, but there are a whole host of movies. Some of my top favorites are: Vampire in Brooklyn, Interview With A Vampire, Vampires, Dusk Till Dawn, Blade, Dracula, Dracula 2000, Underworld, ect.

How do you think vampires from decades ago fair against those that we see in modern media?
Vampires in modern media don’t hold a light to vampires from decades ago. I’m a big fan of vampire folklore and mythology. I love those very dark and seductive creatures that give you all the right kind of nightmares. I feel that the ferocity has been dulled down in modern vampires, and I tried to bring that back in The Opsona Series. Not only with my leading lady, Serenity, but her master, Vondorian.

Is there anything that you would like to see change within the book community?
I really don’t care for genre labeling. Mainly because I don’t worry about genre when I write (and my books fit into a handful of genres), I just write. I have author friends that have fallen into a genre runt just to sell books, they restrict themselves and I think that really holds all of us back. Trying to write to fit this mold of a certain genre.

If you could co-write a vampire book with any other author whom would you choose and why?
I would choose Ariel Marie, who writes the Dark Shadows books. I love the worlds she builds, and the characters she’s come up with. I think the two of us could really put out something amazing. Also, I would love to have her character Nicu meet Serenity.

Is there any authors out there that you think helped to inspire the author you are today?
There isn’t one or even a handful of authors that have inspired me. Instead there is a whole group. The unknown authors, people that write fan fictions and have enough courage to post them on the net inspired me. If it weren’t for them I wouldn’t be doing what I do.
