Fang Time! A Vampire Book Blood Fest Author Interview – A.K. Michaels

akHere is my author interview with the talented A.K. Michaels for the Fang Time! A Vampire Book Blood Fest Event. We will be featuring her upcoming release Escape: A Vampire Blood Courtesans Romance so make sure to grab your copy today!

What originally inspired you to write about vampires in general?
Honestly? Because I love them! They are strong, mysterious and dangerous and writing about them is so much fun!

Are you currently working on any new projects that you would like to share with us?
I am! My newest story is up for preorder, Escape which is an addition to the Blood Courtesans Series and I’m super excited about it. I thought I’d just be doing that one story but when I finished Monica La Porta said I should do another, and that’s all it took for another story to pop into my head. So, that’s what I’m working on at the moment!

What was your most recent release and what would you like readers to know about it?
Escape, A Vampire Blood Courtesans Romance releases on 10th January and it’s up for preorder now. It joins the Courtesans series but I’ve done my own ‘take’ on it, like it’s set in Scotland, where I live, and the Courtesan isn’t a human, well, not entirely human would be a better description. I loved writing it, especially the sexy scenes!

Do you have a newsletter that you would like readers to sign up or?
I do, it’s called the Sassy Lassie’s VIP Clan and anyone signing up gets a bonus freebie!

How many books do you currently have available that include vampires and how would you describe your writing style in 3 words?
I have over thirty books available and most, not every single one, but most have Vampires in them. All of them do have supernatural beings, Shifters, Vamps, Angels, Demons and a host of others including Dragons! Oh gosh my writing style – exciting, suspenseful and sexy!

Are you a fan of any specific vampire shows or movies?
I love The Originals! I’m more than a little in love with Klaus!

How do you think vampires from decades ago fair against those that we see in modern media?
Oh that’s quite hard to answer but I think the ones nowadays have more sex appeal and not portrayed as always being the villain. I’d say that’s the main change and the ones nowadays have women all hot and bothered rather than scared and hiding behind the sofa!

Is there anything that you would like to see change within the book community?
I’d love if we had a ‘no drama – ever’ policy. I stay away from all the negativity but I am aware of it going on. I, personally, just don’t have the time for it. Life is far too short to spend on drama!

If you could co-write a vampire book with any other author who would you choose and why?
J.R. Ward!! Wow, what I wouldn’t do to write one with them!

Is there any authors out there that you think helped to inspire the author that you are today?
I have some wonderful authors who I call friends and who help me to make my stories the best they can be. One of them is my friend, Monica La Porta. She is awesome and she beta reads most of my stories and any changes she suggests are always spot on! She inspires me to write better and I feel blessed to have her as a friend too.

Multi Author, Multi Day, Multi Genre Book Bash Author Interview – A.K. Michaels

akHere is my author interview with the talented author A.K. Michaels for the Multi Author, Multi Day, Multi Genre Book Bash – day one which is featuring vampire authors. She has several amazing series out including Supernatural Enforcement Bureau book one of The Dragon and The Vampire Series. This book is currently available for free so make sure to grab your copy today.

How long have you been a fan of vampires and do you have a favorite from the movies or books?
I’ve always loved supernatural stuff, Vamps, Shifters etc, and remember hiding behind the sofa when I was little when watching the old Vampire movies with Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee!

How many books do you currently have on the market that have a vampire in them?
I’ve got an upcoming release which will be book 1 in my eighth series, almost thirty books published at the moment, although some are more focused on Shifters, most of them have Vampires in them.

What inspired you to write your first vampire book and what can readers expect to find once they read it?
I wanted to write something for adults, with real, strong men in the character roles. I love writing paranormal as it gives me the creative leeway to do whatever I want without the restrictions of the characters being human. I’d hope people would find suspense, action, and love in all of my stories.

If vampires really existed and you could choose to become one but had to leave the life as you currently know it behind would you do it yes or no and why?
Oh this is hard lol. I guess I wouldn’t, purely because I couldn’t leave my family behind.

Would you say that vampires are your favorite paranormal being and why or why not?
I love all my paranormals, Vampires, Shifters, Witches, Demons, Angels, but my very first book was written with the main hero as a Vampire.

If your vampire book(s) were to be turned into a movie and you could choose who would play the role as one of your leading vamps who would you choose and what role is it that they would play?
Oh dear goodness, what a question! Hmmm, there are so many I’d love to see as my Vamps! Ok, I’ll go with Hugh Jackman as Ronan from Supernatural Enforcement Bureau.

When it comes to vampires do you prefer yours as many of the old legends and myths speak of them or how TV has changed them over the years?
Mine aren’t either. My Vampires are men, tough, hard, but also good at heart with a desire to help people. They also can go out in daylight, without the need for any kind of magic etc.

Are there any specific vampire authors that you enjoy reading that have made your favorites list?
I absolutely love Eden Elsworth’s Real World series and I’ve read every single book in the series, along with others that she writes that are non Vampire related.

When it comes to your own vampire books what is one thing that you do to ensure that they are unique and will stand out against other books within the same genre?
My Vamps are not the usual stereotypical Vampires and I always have action and suspense, as well as love, in all my stories. I hope that makes them stand out to people.

Any big plans or projects planned for 2016 that you would like to share with us?
I have a brand new series launching March 15th which is Guild of Dragon Warriors and as is the case with my other books, there’s a host of different beings in it. Everything from Dragon Shifters to Witches, and even a God or two.

It’s Your Time To Shine One Book at a Time Author Interview – A.K. Michaels

akHere is my author interview with the talented A.K. Michael’s for the It’s Your Time To Shine – One Book At A Time Event. This amazing author has lots of books to offer including some of my favorites The Witch, The Wolf and The Vampire Series, The Black Rose Chronicles (which consists of Deceit and Lies, Book 1, Torment and Treachery, Book 2 and Battle and Betrayal: Book 3) just to name a few of her amazing selection.

What is the one think that you hope to improve upon as far as your writing career is concerned?
My writing so I make my editor’s job a wee bit easier. I write fast and sometimes don’t always see errors which annoys me something fierce! I hope to grow with every single story I write so my books are the best they can possibly be.

If you could choose to have dinner with any author, past or present, that you have never met who would you choose and why?
Dang! This is almost impossible to answer as there are so many! Okay, if I have to choose one then I’ll go with the author of one of my favorite TV shows, George R R Martin of Game of Thrones fame. I mean, jeez, the stuff that goes on in that show is phenomenal and I’d love to pick his brains!

What genres do you write in and what is your favorite to read?
I write mostly Paranormal, with Romance, suspense and action, with some dystopian/apocalyptic thrown in with my last two series.

I read across a broad range of genres, everything from Stephen King to Nav Logan’s epic fantasy Stormbringer Saga series, which I LOVE!

What is one genre that you think you would have a hard time writing in and why?
Oh this is easy – human only books! I’m determined to give it a go at some point lol, but I love the freedom my Supernatural beings give me in say a fight scene. Humans are limited with what I can have them do in those scenarios so I think it will be difficult for me, not impossible though!

What is one tool that you think more authors should utilize more often?
I hear a lot of authors saying they can’t afford an editor, well, I know how that feels BUT I think this is an absolute must. If you expect people to pay their hard earned money to buy your book then you have to invest in it and make it the best it can possibly be. That includes an editor, but also get a team of beta readers in place, as well as good cover designers etc. A good strong team really helps to produce a good strong product.

If you had to choose to be a character in your own book who would you choose and why?
Very hard to answer this, too many to choose from. I love Rose from The Black Rose Chronicles, and Peri from The Witch, The Wolf and The Vampire (I mean, who wouldn’t want to be a kickass assassin or a powerful Witch with two men at her beck and call!) But, my new series, Guild of Dragon Warriors, Jaxon’s Sanctuary has a load of character that I’d love to be! Strong sassy, dangerous Dragon Shifters, and an elusive and powerful Unicorn! I want to be them all!

Do you think that writing challenges you in general, or do you think it often flows naturally with little to no writer’s block?
I’ve been very lucky, so far, as I’ve not had writer’s block. I sometimes have to take time to sort things through in my head, especially if a character isn’t behaving as I thought lol, but I’ve never had a time when I’ve not been able to write.

Aside from writing what are some other things that you enjoy doing as time allows?
I love our GSD puppy, Luna, who’s only coming up for seven months, so I spend time playing with her as well as training. A Sunday afternoon is completely spent with Luna and I, going to classes and just one on one time. We do have a new kitten too, but that wee bugger just keeps running away from me, apart from when he wants food, then he’s my best friend lol. I love chilling with hubs and watching a movie, and I’ll either have a glass of wine, or chocolate!

What is one thing most of your readers might be surprised to learn about you?
I don’t hide the fact that I’m OCD and have anxiety issues, but I’m also pretty dang shy lol. When I’m forced to go out to social occasions I either babble like an eejit, or don’t talk at all, lol.

Do you think that any specific book genres get less attention than it should and if so which ones?
Hmm, that’s difficult to answer as I don’t have much data to base an answer on. Possibly epic fantasy, as I do like that genre, but I’ve found it hard to find good books in that genre. I’m not sure if it’s because there aren’t that many out there, or that they are mis-classified on sites etc.

AK Micheals – Then & Now Interview

avaIn June 2013, I first launched VampireForums and the Vampire Forums Facebook Page there was only a handful of authors that I interviewed/reviewed in the beginning with AK Michaels being one of them. Because of that I wanted to do a new interview that shows where she was then and where she is now. I have chosen AK Michaels for my Creative Mind Award. She is an amazing author and I hope that you enjoy the interview and the takeover that she is doing today during the event.

How many books had you released in 2013 and what have you released since then?
By the end of 2013 I had 8 books live. Now I have 22 with another new release set for the next couple of weeks, plus two boxsets. Wow, reading that back makes me realize how far I’ve come!

What one thing do you think has changed about the type of writer that you are over the last two years?
I’m a much better writer, I hope! I’ve learned with each and every story I’ve written and I’ve certainly grown in confidence lol.

If you could go back and give yourself a single piece of advice two years ago from present day what would it be and why?
Hmm, probably to get a good team around me sooner. I have a team now who I work with closely for my covers, images, swag and editing. They make everything so much better and easier for me.

What has been one major milestone in your writing career that you have reached that you would like to share with us?
My newest series, Highland Wolf Clan, has done immensely well and I am very proud of it.

Do you think that the services and advertising provided by me/VampireForums has benefited you at all over the last two years?
Of course! Vampire Forums is fabulous, as are you hon. You’re a wee star and you know I love you. xx

To date what is your favorite vampire book that you have written?
Oh gosh, that’s hard! It’s like making me choose between my babies lol. If I really had to choose then it would be The Witch, The Wolf and The Vampire. I absolutely love Josef!

Have you branched off into any other new genres that you was not writing in 2013?
I still write PNR but my newest series is strictly Wolves and Witches, no Vamps lol. BUT, I’m just about to start book 1 in a brand new series and there most certainly is gonna be a sexy, hot as sin, Vamp in that.

Do you have any new releases coming up and if so what are they and genre?
Yes, several! Books 4 and 5 in the Highland Wolf Clan series are almost ready for release and it won’t be too long until book 1 of my new series is ready.

Are you currently satisfied at where your writing career stands and do you feel as though you have grown as an author over the last two years?
I’ve definitely grown, learned, and enjoyed the past two years. I look back two years and realize just how much I’ve learned.

What is one free resource that all authors should take advantage of?
I think getting their books, images, teasers, out there in FB land and especially via VampireForums! There’s a whole load of book blogging sites that are also free, although a lot do charge for promo, there are still some that will do it for free.
